Number of US police officers murdered up by 59% - FBI

Murders of police officers rose by nearly 60% during 2021, amid a wider rise in violent crime across the US, according to FBI Director Christopher Wray.

In an interview with 60 Minutes, Mr Wray said 73 officers were killed in the line of duty last year.

Murders of all kinds across the US have risen dramatically since 2019.

Mr Wray said violence against police was a "phenomena" that "doesn't get enough attention".

He said it amounted to an officer killed every five days. Around 1,000 people are killed in the US by police each year, although only a small proportion of cases lead to criminal charges.

Mr Wray said that "some" of the violence against police is "tied to the violent crime problem as a whole".

But, he said, authorities believe that "an alarming percentage" of the officers killed were targeted and "killed through things like being ambushed or shot while out on patrol".

"Wearing the badge shouldn't make you a target," he added.

Mr Wray did not disclose how many of the 73 officers were targeted in such a manner.

In January, however, the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) said that it had recorded 103 "ambush-style attacks" on officers in 2021, resulting in 130 officers shot and 30 killed.

In 2020, the FBI's own data estimates that murders rose 29% from 2019, the sharpest increase since national-level record keeping began in 1960.

The Jacob Blake incident in Kenosha, WI on Sunday August 23 2020

After a black man was shot seven times in the back by a police officer in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Sunday, 23 August, people angry about police violence began protesting. Limited law enforcement in Kenosha has led to individuals and groups taking the law into their own hands during the unrest, a spokesman for the Wisconsin Professional Police Association said. An overnight curfew is in place in the city from 19:00 - 07:00, lasting until Sunday. Community leaders have urged people to respect the curfew; however the violent protestors are obviously violating the curfew; We call on all curfew violators to be arrested.

There have been days of demonstrations and unrest after Mr Blake's shooting.

On Tuesday, a small group threw fireworks and water bottles at police in Kenosha, who responded with rubber bullets and tear gas.

Videos from Tuesday show armed civilians in military clothes congregating outside buildings in the city. Kenosha had descended into "anarchy" after being "abandoned" by authorities. A few days later, after a few deaths among the protestors and horrible arson and destruction of property, more than 200 FBI agents are being sent to Kenosha to try to bring order to the city, and the White House says 2,000 National Guard members are available to go.

RACISM ?

The BLM movement (a movement with which we are NOT associated at all - since we think it is racist, violent and criminal), accuses white people in the United States, and the entire US society of systemic racism. We'd like to have a discussion on that right here. We are against any form of racism, and indeed, do not even believe that there are separate "races" among human beings. I identify as a man, and a human being, and as an American. I do not identify as "white", because I do not believe that the color of one's skin is a proper classification. I am human - that is my race. I believe that as long as people consider themselves to be anything other than human beings - that is any separate or different "race" - that racism will exist. Perhaps that is the best definition of racism there is - to believe that you, or others, belong to a "race" that is different from the entire human race.

Black Lives Matter .BLACK is NOT affiliated with the BLM movement.

Black Lives Matter .BLACK is NOT AFFILIATED in any way with the Black Lives Matter movement - which is a violent, radical group run by black lesbians and queers - people with so many "chips" on their shoulders that they see evil and racism everywhere. Those strange people don't represent America, and they don't represent black people or black americans either. They think the world is against them because of the color of their skin, and their gender, because of their sexual choices, etc. They believe in special rights for women, minorities, gays, lesbians, queers, etc. and we know that the U.S. Constitution and every State Constitution prohibit special rights for specific groups. All individuals must have exactly the same legal rights. Reforming the corrupt legal system that gives certain groups of people special rights, that protects police who murder, that allows lawyers to skim 15 to 20 % off the top of the US economy, that is a for-profit big money business rather than the not-for-profit system of justice that it was intended to be is the key to reforming racism and other problems in society. Vote for the LRA (the Legal Reform Amendment).
