The Jacob Blake incident in Kenosha, WI on Sunday August 23 2020
After a black man was shot seven times in the back by a police officer in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Sunday, 23 August, people angry about police violence began protesting. Limited law enforcement in Kenosha has led to individuals and groups taking the law into their own hands during the unrest, a spokesman for the Wisconsin Professional Police Association said. An overnight curfew is in place in the city from 19:00 - 07:00, lasting until Sunday. Community leaders have urged people to respect the curfew; however the violent protestors are obviously violating the curfew; We call on all curfew violators to be arrested.
There have been days of demonstrations and unrest after Mr Blake's shooting.
On Tuesday, a small group threw fireworks and water bottles at police in Kenosha, who responded with rubber bullets and tear gas.
Videos from Tuesday show armed civilians in military clothes congregating outside buildings in the city. Kenosha had descended into "anarchy" after being "abandoned" by authorities. A few days later, after a few deaths among the protestors and horrible arson and destruction of property, more than 200 FBI agents are being sent to Kenosha to try to bring order to the city, and the White House says 2,000 National Guard members are available to go.
There are so many things to say about what happened in Kenosha on Sunday August 23, 2020, and so many questions to be answered. What do we know?
Officers were called to an address on Sunday evening after a woman reported "her boyfriend was present and was not supposed to be on the premises". The union representing police officers in Kenosha, Wis., stated that Blake was armed with a knife and "forcefully fought" with the officers who tried to arrest him, putting one of them in a headlock. The statement from the Kenosha Professional Police Association also says officers twice shot Tasers at Blake but these failed to subdue him.
Lawyers for Mr Blake have said he had been trying to "de-escalate a domestic incident" when police drew their weapons.
While there they tried to arrest Mr Blake, initially using a taser against him. After Mr Blake opened his car door, Officer Rusten Sheskey - who has been in the Kenosha Police Department for seven years - fired seven shots into Mr Blake's back. Mr Blake has since told investigators that he had a knife in his possession, and Mr Kaul said officers "recovered a knife from the driver's side floorboard" of his car. They found no other weapon in the vehicle. Mr Blake is recovering in hospital and is conscious, but his lawyers fear it will take a "miracle" for him to walk again. Meanwhile, Blake is no longer handcuffed to his hospital bed in Milwaukee. Kenosha Police Chief Daniel Miskinis told reporters Friday that Blake was "being guarded because he's under arrest" on an outstanding warrant for third-degree sexual assault.
Why did Jacob Blake's ex partner call the police on him?
Why didn't Mr. Blake stop when he was surrrounded by police and ordered to stop?
Why did Mr. Blake continue to walk around his car and then open the drivers door and then lean into the car, as if to grab a gun?
Was this a "suicide by cop" act that he hoped would get his family millions in a lawsuit?
Why did the police officer, Rusteen Sheskey, shoot him seven times, and not just once or twice?
Did Blake really have a knife in his hands? One was found in his car, police stated.
Why didn't the local government stop the mob violence and prevent massive arson and destruction?
Are the violent protestors who burned cars and buildings to the ground going to be brought to justice like they should be, like they MUST be?
People once again we have a black man who does NOT obey police and who does something very stupid in not obeying their orders to stop, and even more stupid when he reaches into a dark vehicule, as if to retrieve a weapon. Once again we have a police officer who shoots too many times. Of course the officer had to shoot him, as Blake could have been reaching for a weapon inside his car. The stupid BLM people and other protestors who don't understand this aren't smart enough to participate in finding a solution to this problem. Police officers MUST always protect themselves, fellow officers and the general public whenever confronting an armed suspect. Anyone with a weapon who comes into any contact with the police needs to stop and drop the weapon immediately and keep both empty hands raised up in the air. Everyone knows that - all people, black, white, or other need to do that, and if you don't do that you are risking your life. Why couldn't the police officer have shot him just once or twice? Why 7 times!? Why couldn't the police officer have carried a fast-acting (1-2 seconds) tranquilizer pistol that he could have used instead? We know that tasers do not stop many people, and that they are not effective, so we recommend fast-acting ranquilizer pistols for cases like this when a suspect refuses to obey police orders.
Furthermore, we need to pass new laws that do not make millionaires out of families whose members are shot or killed by police. If the police are at fault, then the officers must be put in jail. No money should change hands however; that just raises taxes, takes money away from the government and away from social programs, and makes scum lawyers rich and gives a possible reason and motive for a "suicide by cop", which we believe might be what is truly going on here, as well as in other police shootings ot black men who fail to obey critical police orders and who resist arrest.
We as a society need to decide what to do with people who do not obey the police and who resist arrest, like Jacob Blake, and like George Floyd before him. Both of these men gave the cops a chance to kill them by resisting arrest, and failing to obey police orders. Of course the police had no right to murder Floyd like they did, and those police will be convicted and do time for that murder. Blake, however is an entirely different manner - reaching inside the car should have got him killed, and it nearly did. The government shouldn't have to pay him, his lawyer or his family a dime. And how about that ex partner of his, what a loser for calling the police on her "boyfriend". Look what happened to him.
People, learn that you cannot resist arrest - you put your life at risk doing so.
Women, learn not to involve police in family matters unless you honestly feel that real violence is imminent. Stop using the cops to get exactly what you want exactly when you want. It's disgusting. Anytime you call the police you are putting people's lives in danger!
